A blog is a good tool for an eportfolio. It is free, easy to set up, has good support documentation, and can be customised to provide an individual workspace.

With 50MB free storage space, and the ability to upload most document types, it would seem to provide a sound platform for teachers and for students. I can uses the categories area to vary the material I am saving, and so a single blog can be used for many purposes. Its also a good orgnisational tool as it keeps all related documents in one place.

As I have learnt how to use this tool, I have used the supporting documentation; have varied the look and feel of the pages and discovered that I can use the Responses area as a place to record my relfections.

This is one area that keeps my quite busy but which provides many rewards. Here i have an opportunity to have discussions about why a piece of software is to be used; what the intentions are; and how it is intended to be used. Quite often I am able to steer teachers towards more appropriate solutions that are easler to implement and provide a better outcome for the students.

A part of my role is also to examine the educational potential of requested software. Quite often there are cheaper (or free) alternatives.

I am satisfied that I have made a good start with all of the goals that I set myself. Some of the ways that I thought I might approach this task, didn't happen as I found alternatives. In the main I think I managed to stick to the schedule, in terms of completing various parts of this excercise, but I did them in slightly different ways. I did not find the textbook particularly useful.....I had read some of the previous edition having purchased it 18 months ago.......
I believe this portfolio represents a good collection of evidence of learning in my chosen areas and presenting it via this blog, whilst it has presented certain difficulties and imposed certain limits, has been a learning experience in itself.

Some of the artifacts take a little long to download, but that's a function of using a free service. However, I am now an avid blogger and that's a bonus outcome that was not part of my learning contract.

Heard tonight that someone from Alexander Downer's staff will be accessing our virtual classroom and discussing issues with the students. Apparently it is expected that Mr Downer will be rather busy next week!

I'm really pleased with the outcome of my coaching with this History teacher. We have traded ideas, researched best practice, and come up with an excellent program of work for this topic. The next step will be to evaluate the tasks and the student performance. I'm sure this will become a model for future learning programs. It's a pity the whole program only lasts for two weeks. My History teacher is now considering making movies and putting them on TeacherTube. I think I've created a monster!!

I wonder if this is a primary school thing. I'm certain that they are successful because teachers stay in their comfort zones, and every time I see one in action, it's the same old story.....teacher at the front, talking, pointing, tapping on the board....and getting in the way of the images. I think these things will slow down integaration and constructivism, whilst at the same time giving an appearance of a technology-rich environment.

I had some fun with this one, and we ended up friends. I just love the two quotes at the end.....I discovered these after a difficult week at work. Seems somebody uncovered a statement I made on a US blog, and managed to spread it around the college. Hmmm...... no gain without pain I suspect, and judging from other comments on the forum, I'm not the only one to suffer.

This thread is still ongoing and we are uncovering new resources. One such resource is the Glen Waverley College website which provides QuickTime movies of their new learning spaces. http://www.gwsc.vic.edu.au/

Schools overseas are now being built to reflect changing expectations of students - http://www.thecoolhunter.net/architecture/3XN---Orestad-Gymnasium-Denmark/

I consider that many people provide the answer they think you want to hear, when completing surveys, and for this reason they are not too reliable. However, as a starting point this was a useful tool, for me to gauge the level of use and the skill levels of the teaching staff. Not all teachers responded.
